Program offerings

The Colorado Hebrew Chorale offers two different types of school interactions.

For those desiring a frontal, assembly type presentation, we offer the three possible programing options, or we can create one for your unique needs.

For schools with a developed choral program, we offer an Choral Immersion Program that culminates in a joint performance/s with our singers

The Taste of Jewish Music

Holidays, life cycle events and the seasons; all of these celebrations are enhanced with food and song. Savor a sampling of Jewish traditions from across the calendar and around the globe.

Israel and America

A musical comparison of the establishment of the modern State of Israel in 1948 and the founding of the United States in 1776. We juxtapose songs of patriotism, hope, nation building and dreams from two of the most successful democracies in the world.

Hooray for Hollywood

The world of popular entertainment served as a path to success for Jewish immigrants and their children. We spotlight Jewish composers of stage and screen, from Irving Berlin through Richard Rogers to Billy Joel.

  • Immersion

Building bridges of understanding starts with youth—the next generation. The immersion experience celebrates our unique contributions while recognizing the need to build better understanding. Within our multi-ethnic community, there is a lack of awareness of Jewish culture, heritage, and tradition. An immersion experience is an excellent method for promoting an appreciation of diversity.

This kind of experience can be tailored to all grade levels

    Components

    1. Preliminary meetings with choral directors to select a theme and repertoire.

    2. One or more rehearsals with the Colorado Hebrew Chorale choral directors, to work on language issues.

    3. One or more presentations to students and teachers by the Colorado Hebrew Chorale specialists on content issues related to the program.

    4. Collaboration with the Colorado Hebrew Chorale on poster design, publicity, and printed programs for the performance.

    6. One or more joint performance(s) for parents and community.

    Timeline

Our immersion program is meant to cover 10-12 weeks of a school year (for a choir that meets daily). The choral directors will determine the number of weeks necessary for the unit. The choirs involved will focus on Jewish music, as selected in cooperation with all the choral directors involved, for the duration of the unit. This unit can be tailored to the needs of your school The music is selected based on the choirs’ musical level, and can include pieces in Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino and Aramaic, as well as English. Our specialists will visit the school and enhance the music making experience with relevant historical, cultural and religious background information.

    Inclusion

Inclusive practices are intrinsic to the way we work. Rehearsal practices include cues for oral and visual learners, and pedagogical training to accommodate all levels of learning. Musical programming is designed to encourage language and reading skills, communication, critical thinking and artistic skills, as well as promoting a positive attitude towards all elements of our society. All activities will meet state music standards.

    Professional Development

We encourage a multi-disciplinary approach, and would be happy to work with classroom teachers in the school. The Colorado Hebrew Chorale is able to make professional development sessions available for all interested teachers in the partner organization.

Our presenters have experience with both the specific content, in school, community and professional settings, and with facilitating full participation of students and adults.

    Cost

If the joint concert is an event for which tickets are sold, the Colorado Hebrew Chorale will receive 50% of the box office. If the concert is a free concert, the fee is to be negotiated. Publicity for the concert(s) will be disseminated by both the Colorado Hebrew Chorale and the school.

    Support

Youth outreach programs of the Colorado Hebrew Chorale are supported in part by a grant from the Kinder Morgan Foundation and the Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado.
